No matter where you live, catastrophes to your property are inevitable. In the community of Aurora, this occurred for five people and their apartments, as reported by The Beacon-News. These five people, including two firefighters, were taken to the hospital after a fire near the east side of the city. The fire broke out inside a third-floor apartment at a 96-unit complex on Second Avenue. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The 55 year old female resident of the apartment where the fire was contained is currently being treated for third-degree burns over fifteen percent of her body. Two other women, ages 45 and 22 who lived nearby, were treated for smoke inhalation. When firefighters arrived, the whole floor was engulfed with heavy smoke, but their heroism saved three people from inside the building and seven from third-floor windows. One firefighter was hit with a piece of equipment and suffered minor injuries while another was treated for heat exhaustion. The damage done to the apartment complex has been estimated to be at $75,000.
